| ZACARA TAKES HOME THE TROPHY 2012 Nespresso United States Open Championship Aprill 22, 2012 Wellington FL-The weekend brought in showers but hours before the game the sky cleared and helicopters were in place to dry the field. The Polo season came down to a grand finale battle between Zacara and Lechuza Caracas. The two teams went head to head for the 2012 Nespresso United States Open Championship. The teams kept a close match the entire day with neither side backing down. Facundo Pieres raced out the gates scoring within the first thirty seconds of the game on a 90 yard shot. Lechuza Caracas responded with consecutive goals by Juan Martin Nero and Sapo Caset. Lechuza Caracas finished the first chukker with a 2-1 lead. The second period the teams volleyed back and forth with Pieres scoring to tie the match up at 2-2. Sapo Caset scored and bumped the lead to 3-2. Lechuza Caracas was pushing to score again when a ball miscue happened and failed to take advantage of a goal opportunity. Zacara took advantage of the mistake and ran down field to score tying it all up at 3-3. The period ended with Lechuza Caracas up 4-3. The second half Zacara stunned the Luchuza Caracas offense as they struggled to score. Zacara scored multiple goals ending the period with an 8-5 lead. Caset kept his team in the game responding with consecutive goals narrowing the Zacara lead to just one goal 8-7. Despite a fight from Luchuza Caracas, Zacara put the game away in the final chukker scoring two goals in the final minutes. Zacara rode off with a 10-8 win and Azzaro was named MVP scoring four times during the match. | ZACARA STOMPS ON COCA-COLA 13-7 Zacara Moves On To The Semifinals April 15, 2012 Wellington FL-The two teams Zacara and Coca-Cola were fighting for a spot in the semifinals of the Nespresso US Open Championship. It was clear throughout the match Coca-Cola did not get the message they were playing for a spot in the semifinals as zacara held control the entire game. Zacara started on a 3-0 lead and after Magoo Laprida scored the opening goal Pieres scored consecutive goals from the field. Towards the end of the chukker Coca-Cola got on the board with a goal from Hilario Ulloa ending the first chukker 3-1. The second chukker Zacara shut out Coca-Cola while Pieres scored two more goals gaining a 5-1 lead after the second chukker. The third period Coca-Cola Scored two goals to neutralize the Zacara offense. Julio Arellano scored on a 40-yard penalty conversion. The third chukker ended with the score 7-3 Zacara. The second half Coca-Cola finally received the message they were playing for a semifinals spot and came out scoring 3 times in only four minutes. Coca-Cola cut the lead to 7-6, but Pieres answered for Zacara bumping the lead up two goals. In the fifth and sixth chukker Zacara would gain full control of the game shutting down Coca-Cola the rest of the match only allowing one goal. Zacara proved to be the winner taing a 13-7 win. | ZACARA RALLIES TO WIN Pieres scores 9 goals in match to win April 8, 2012 Wellington, FL- The Polo season has picked up with only three weeks left of action at the international Polo Club of Wellington. Zacara jumped out to a 3-0 lead over Orchard Hill with two goals from Argentine 10-goaler Facundo Pieres. Mike Azzaro followed behind with his first goal of the game. Orchard Hill woke up and answered right back with 3 goals of their own. After a goal from Pablo MacDonough, Mariano Gonzalez scored back to back goals tying the score at 3-3 between the teams. The teams went back and forth scoring goals as Zacara team captain Lyndon Lea scored gaining a 5-4 lead over Orchard Hill. Gonzalez answered back for Orchard Hill scoring on a throw in. With seconds remaining at the end of the Chukker Pieres had the last say for Zacara as he scored on a penalty shot 6-5. Pieres carried his momentum into the third chukker as he scored again pushing the lead for Zacara to 7-5. Orchard Hill rose back by scoring three consecutive goals from the field gaining an 8-7 lead over Zacara. Orchard Hill had no answer for Pieres who scored his fifth goal of the match tying the score at 8-8. The fourth chukker Laprida scored giving the lead to Zacara 9-8. Orchard Hill once again in the game answered with 3 consecutive goals holding a 11-9 advantage. The final chukker Zacara opened up the offense Pieres scored two goals in the first 50 seconds 13-11. Later in the period Pieres scored again, 14-11, and Laprida closed any chance of a comeback from Orchard Hill scoring from the field 15-11. | VALIENTE II ADVANCES TO PIAGET GOLD CUP SEMIFINALS Valiente defeats Algeria (15-6) March 18, 2012 Wellington FL-The game opened with Cambiaso scoreing the first goal less than a minute in, but Algeria answerd with single goals from Tomas Garcia del Rio and Fred Mannix. The first chukker ended with a 2 to 1 score, Algeria on top. Thirty seconds into the second chukker, Fred Mannix scored for a 3-1 lead, but that was the goal that awakened the Valiente team. An Alegria foul put Cambiaso on the penalty line where he converted a penalty shot for a score. Alejo Taranco rode down the field and drove the ball through the goal posts from nearly 100 yards out to tie the game at 3-3. The second half offered no help for Alegria than the past two chukkers had as the Valiente team scored five unanswered goals in the fourth chukker. Cambiaso scored two goals that were then followed by a goal from the field by Taranco for an 11-4 lead. Two more goals from Cambiaso one from the field and one on a penalty shot ended the chukker with a 13-4 lead by Valiente II. In the fifth period defense tightened with neither team capitalizing on ball control or shots. Yet another goal from Cambiaso in the last 50 seconds of play ended the chukker with Valiente II boasting a 14-4 lead with one chukker left to play. Single goals from Aguerre and Garcia del Rio ended the game with Valiente II earning a spot in Thursday's semifinals with the 15-6 victory. Cambiaso was credited with a remarkable twelve goals on the day along with Taranco scoring twice and Jornayvaz with a goal in the win. | VALIENTE I WIN'S THE 2012 C.V. WHITNEY CUP FINAL Down three goals in the fifth chukker Valiente I mounted a comeback March 4, 2012 Wellington FL- After the rain and clouds cleared the evening was set for a beautiful day of Polo. The championship final was scheduled for Valiente I to square off against Valiente II. Valiente II defeated Zacara 11-5 on Wednesday in the semifinal to advance to the final. Valiente I outlasted ERG 12-11 late Wednesday to play in the final on Sunday. The match featured father vs. son with Valiente I Bob Jornayvaz playing his son valiente II's Robert Jornayvaz. Stirling scored for Valiente II for a 1-0 lead in the beginning chukker. Miguel Astrada was injured by a collision between him and stirling. Miguel remounted back on his horse and converted a penalty shot to tie the game 1-1. Miguel Astrada converted another penalty shot taking a 2-1 over Valiente II. Valiente II scored two goals from Stirling and Adolfo Cambiaso to gain a 3-2 lead. Valiente I answered with two goals scored from brothers Miguel Astrada and Nacho Astrada putting their team up 4-3. The two teams battled to a 5-5 tie in the end of the first half. Cambiaso to start the second half raced 150 yards down field to score gaining a 6-5 lead for Valiente II. Taranco scored another unanswered goal from the field to enlarge the lead to two goals over Valiente I 7-5. In the fifth period Stirling scored pushing the Valiente lead to 8-5. The game looked out of reach for Valiente II to make any push or drive. Valiente I mounted a comeback from the two Astrada brothers. A penalty conversion from Nacho Astrada was complimented by a pair of goals from Miguel Astrada Tying the game up at 8-8. Valiente I continued the momentum by scoring 2 more goals one from the field as Nacho Astrada scored the go head goal. Miguel Astrada scored a 40 yard penalty shot ensuring the win for Valiente II 10-8. Miguel Astrada led the field in scoring with 6 goals. PIAGET WINS YLVISAKER CUP FINAL Despite a 2 goal lead Audi goes down in cup finalFebruary 26, 2012 Wellington FL-The final was a thriller for all Braman VIPS in attendance on Sunday. The final was set Sunday for Piaget and Audi, the final two teams out of 16 teams. Audi defeated Coca-Cola to advance to the finals, while Piaget won over Lucchese in the semifinal on Wednesday. Jason Crowder scored from the field for Piaget to start the first chukker followed by Miguel Astrada converting a penalty shot. The goals gave Piaget a 2-0 lead to start the game. The first goal of the game for Audi came from Lucas Lalor. Miguel Astrada countered with another goal placing Piaget up 3-1. Before the end of the chukker Nic Roldan scored and the game was 3-2 Piaget advantage. In the second chukker Nic Roldan continued to carry the offense scoring a pair of goals, followed by a goal from Piaget to leave the game all tied up at 4-4. After the first two periods it was a battle between Nic Roldan and Migual Astrada. In the third period Crowder scored his second goal for Piaget. Nic Roldan answered by scoring three consecutive goals, two on penalty shots and one from the field to give Audi an 7-5 lead. Juan Bollini scored the final goal of the chukker before half time leaving the score at 7-6 Audi. Piaget scored 5 straight goals in the fourth and fifth chukker controlling a 10-7 lead over Audi. Audi's high powered offense was not to be silence as they scored two goals from Nic Roldan to shorten the deficit to 10-9. The sixth and final chukker was set up for last second drama to occur. Audi scored to tie the game 10-10.Astrada answered with a 60 yard penalty shot giving the lead back to Piaget 11-10. Rodrigo Andrade scored from the field for Audi 11-11. Crowder scored for Piaget 12-11, followed by a 60 yard penalty shot from Nic Roldan to make it 12-12 with only two minutes to proceed. | C.V. WHITNEY CUP CHAMPIONSHIP Lechuza Caracas is the defending champion of last year's C.V. Whitney Cup February 19, 2012 Wellington FL- The weather was great on Sunday for Braman to bring 563 horsepower of the Royce Rolls Ghost Metropolitan blue. The Polo fans were back in full affect after last week's drop in temperature, they returned fully charge and ready for a great game between Valiente I and Lechuza Caracas. The teams were kicking-off the C.V. Whitney cup championship, which Lechuza Caracas won last year. The first chukker Miguel Astrada put Valiente I on the board with a goal from the field. Lechuza Caracas responded by tying up the game 1-1 half-way through the first chukker. The first half was stapled by great defense from both teams. Polito Pieres scored on a 200 yard run down the field for Valiente I. Luchuza Caracas answered back with Obregon scoring on his second penalty shot of the game leaving the score at 2-2 for the second chukker. Miguel Astrada carried the offense for Valiente I in the third chukker scoring a pair of goals gaining a 4-2 lead over Lechuza Caracas. Lechuza Caracas 10-goaler Sapo Caset scored a goal before the end of the half to close the gap 4-3. The second half valiente I opened up their lead scoring goals from team captain Bob Jornayvaz and Pierce. Valiente I scored on penalty shots from Miguel Astrada and Pierce taking an 8-4 lead. Luchuza Caracas tried to come back scoring consecutive times, but the rally was cut short by Valiente I scoring the final point of the chukker winning 9-6. PIAGET ADVANCES TO QUARTERFINALS Piaget wins 12-9 over Equuleus for spot in quarter-finals.February 12, 2012 Wellington FL-Sunday was packed with 7 games of Polo.The highlighted game was Equuleus vs. Piaget vowing for a spot in the quarterfinals of the Ylvisaker Cup. Piaget started the game on the right foot scoring 3-1 in the first chukker. Team Captain Melissa Ganzi scored from the field along with Miguel Astrada placing two goals, one from the field and another on a penalty shot. The second chukker added up to offense with Astrada and Crowder placing single goals to bump the lead 5-1. Equuleus stop the bleeding by scoring two goals from Mariano Gonzalez and de Narvaez closing the gap 5-3. Before the second chukker would end Astrada scored two goals placing Piaget up 7-3. In the third chukker defense became the strategy for both teams as they only scored two total goals in the period. The third period ended 8-4 in favor of Piaget. The second half Equuleus mounted a comeback scoring consecutive goals from de Narvaez and Brandon Phillips cutting the lead down 8-6. Piaget woke up and roared back to score 3 goals, Two from Astrada and one from Crowder going back up five goals 11-6. In the fifth and sixth chukker Equuleus responded by scoring three goals closing the gap 9-12 between the two teams. The hole was just too steep for Equuleus to overcome as time expired and Piaget edged out a 12-9 victory. SUPER BOWL SUNDAY POLO MetalTek Crushes Pony ExpressFebruary 5, 2012 Wellington FL- On Super Bowl Sunday it was MetalTek that brought the giant defense out to the International Polo Club. Pony Express charged out of the gates with a 3-0 lead with two goals scored by Juan Garcia Grossi and one handicap goal. Despite a slow start in the 1st chukker MetalTek scored five unanswered goals three coming from Carlucho Arellano 2 penalty conversion and one from the field. MetalTek held control of the game at half with goals from Arellano and Merlos for a 9-5 advantage over Pony Express. The second half MetalTek didn't let up on the defense or the offensive pushing full throttle to score two goals and leave Pony Express only able to knock in one goal. Merlos scored a 60 yard penalty shot with countering goals from Daniels and Grossi to close the gap between the two teams. Going into the sixth Chukker the game was still close 11-8 but MetalTek opened up the game scoring a pair of goals from Stevie Orthwein and two goals from Arellano. Pony Express was shut out in the final Chukker and MetalTek earned a 16-8 win in the chase for the Ylvisaker cup.
